Artist Feature: Stoney LaRue to Play in Acoustic Music Series

Mavericks Dance Hall is excited to announce our Thursday Night Live Acoustic Series presented by Tito's Handmade Vodka! We'll be proudly featuring some of our favorite bands and artists to perform right here in Austin, Texas. This last month, we were lucky to have Zane Williams put on an incredible solo acoustic show. For our next event, we're thrilled to share that Cody Sparks will be opening up for Stoney LaRue, who will be giving a performance that you won't want to miss!

About Stoney LaRue

Born into a musical family in Taft, Texas near Corpus Christi, both Stoney's father and brother are musicians, so it only seemed right that he get into country music at a young age. Upon being raised in Yanush, Oklahoma, LaRue eventually took his talents to Stillwater, Oklahoma, where he became a part of the "Red Dirt" musical community. With a heavy influence from Woody Guthrie, LaRue describes his music as, "a culmination of roots music, Americana, country, folk, a little rock and roll and R&B. It's got a very eclectic sound." After almost 20 years of steady touring under his belt, Stoney is passionately creating connections with people from all walks of life, wherever he goes. He's even more passionate about further developing the relationship between himself and his fan base. In fact, his latest album from 2015, Us Time, is a special compilation and tribute to all of his fans who have requested both covers and original songs.

Behind the Music

Known for his passionate and energetic live shows, Stoney has gained quite the loyal following with over 200 shows a year! Not only that, but LaRue's songs have seen the top of the charts, as he has sold over one million records over his career. Critics and fans both enjoy his "unique combination of rootsy, emotionally honest sound of country mixed with the beer-drinking swagger of heartland rock and a dash of the moody undercurrents of the blues." Stoney is now a highly popular performer on the Oklahoma Red Dirt music scene.
